Rust Proof Your Vehicle by Cleaning Off the Road Salt.

December 5, 2013

Help to rust proof your vehicle by cleaning off the road salt.

If you live in an area that gets lots of snow and ice, you are probably familiar with road salt. Road salt is one of the most easily accessible and cost effective deicers available to communities battling winter snow and ice. Salt lowers the freezing temperature of the water on the road, making the roads less likely to ice and keeping driving conditions safer.

As great as the salt is for roadway safety, it is not very great for the metal and paint on your vehicle. Salt can help to accelerate the rusting process on vehicles, particularly on the hard to see areas such as the undercarriage, and wheel wells.

At this time of year, it is important to wash your vehicle regularly to get the salt off. If you are going through an automatic car wash, opt for the undercarriage wash to get the hard to see areas clean. If you are self-serve washing your car, make sure you spray the underside of your vehicle as best you can to get as much of that corrosive salt away.

Don’t let “salt eat your car!” Protect one of your largest investments; wash your vehicle regularly to keep it protected.
